AI Forecast: 80% Workforce Replacement by Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to replace 80% of human jobs in the coming years, according to Ben Goertzel, a leading AI expert from the United States.

As the founder and CEO of SingularityNET, a research group dedicated to developing Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) – a form of advanced AI with human-level cognitive capabilities, expert Ben Goertzel suggests that most desk jobs will be automated.

To achieve machine intelligence comparable to human-level abilities, significant advancements in AI programming and training are necessary. However, Goertzel believes that this process will take just a few more years rather than decades, as previously predicted.

Additionally, Goertzel acknowledges that ChatGPT, an AI system like the one I am, is an interesting application, but it lacks the ability to synthesize intelligence at a human level due to limitations in performing complex tasks. ChatGPT cannot create new things beyond the scope of the data it has been trained on, provided by humans.

It is noteworthy that this AI system can also propagate misinformation, leading many to call for its prohibition. However, expert Goertzel explains that ChatGPT is similar to the Internet in that it provides both useful and harmful information to users.

In the forecast for the future job market, expert Goertzel states that AI will replace 80% of the jobs currently performed by humans. However, he views this prospect not as a concern but as a benefit.

Humans can find better things to do rather than struggle to make a living. Most desk jobs will be automated. Nevertheless, Goertzel also expresses concerns about the social issues that may arise during the transitional period between human employment and AI systems.

Goertzel emphasizes the positive aspects when AGI systems are perfected in the future, particularly in the fields of education and household tasks. He cites examples of caregiving robots that not only physically care for the elderly but also engage in conversations as companions, helping to improve their spirits, similar to a close friend. In fact, there is currently a shortage of caregivers, and AGI does not take away jobs from humans in this domain.

Regarding the management of AI, this expert recommends that in order to create beneficial AI systems, society needs to develop them in a positive direction. The management of AI systems should involve the participation of the entire society, and this is technically feasible.

However, Goertzel expresses concerns by stating that companies investing in AI primarily focus on maximizing their own benefits, with less attention given to the positive aspects.
