Approximately two months ago, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo announced that the US tech giant had scrapped its plans to launch a new iPhone SE model in 2024. However, in a recent series of Twitter posts, Kuo has disclosed that Apple appears to be making new enhancements to the iPhone SE 2024 (or iPhone SE 4) and has also shared crucial details regarding the device’s specifications.

One of the most significant revelations made by Kuo is that the iPhone SE 2024 will be similar to the iPhone 14, indicating that it will come equipped with a 6.1-inch OLED display with a large notch, which represents the most significant change since the iPhone SE 2022 came with a 4.7-inch LCD screen.

Kuo also stated that the iPhone SE 4 will incorporate Apple’s 5G chip, which is expected to support only sub-6GHz 5G networks based on current plans. This aligns with recent comments made by Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, who expressed hopes that Apple would develop its 5G modem by 2024 but affirmed that Qualcomm would be available if required. All current iPhone models are fitted with Qualcomm’s 5G chip.

The analyst further revealed that it is unclear whether Apple’s 5G chip will be used in the iPhone 16, set for release after 2024. This will only be feasible if the company overcomes the issues related to 5G mmWave and satellite communication.

Kuo stated that Apple’s reliance on Qualcomm’s radio frequency chip will gradually decrease following the iPhone SE 2024’s release. This is because devices like the iPad and Apple Watch will also be able to switch to using Apple’s radio frequency chip. Additionally, he noted that this development will result in a significant reduction in Qualcomm’s business operations over the next two to three years.
