iPhone 15 introduces a new optimal charging option to extend battery life.
Apple’s new iPhone 15 offers an option to set a battery charging limit at 80% based on users’ habits, aiding in prolonging the battery lifespan.
Apple has just released iOS 17.0.2 for the iPhone 15 series, and in this update, users can limit battery charging to 80%. This is Apple’s solution to address complaints regarding battery capacity for the iPhone 14 models last year.
Apple has outlined in detail how this new 80% battery charge limit setting works for the iPhone 15 in the update’s detailed notes.
When enabling “Limit to 80%,” the user’s iPhone will charge to about 80% and then stop charging. If the battery level drops to 75%, the charging process will resume until the battery level reaches around 80%. However, even with this charging limit enabled, the iPhone may occasionally charge to 100% to maintain an accurate battery charge state estimate.
This new option is part of the “Optimized Battery Charging” setting available on Apple devices in recent years. It helps maintain the battery charge at 80% before reaching full capacity, operating based on user usage habits.
This new limit can help prevent sudden battery capacity drops, an issue reported by many iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro users recently. Additionally, by limiting the charging capacity to 80%, heat and stress on the battery are reduced, thus helping to extend the battery’s lifespan in the long run.
The iPhone 15 also features a new capability that allows users to view the charge cycles for their battery.
